Are you looking for sound quality or quality of material? (Edit: I just noticed that you wrote track-wise and sound-wise)For quality of material, I would pick up Live at the Star Club (indispensable) and one of the Original Sun Greatest Hits (Rhino or Bear Family) CDs for starters. I think that with any Jerry Lee comp that tries to span more than one period of his career (rock, country, ect.) you start having issues with songs being omitted.For quality of sound, there's never been a clear consensus here. Most people like the Bear Family masterings, including myself. There have been varying opinions on the Time-Life set, and surprisingly little by way of opinions on the OOP Rhino Original Sun Greatest Hits.Personally, I grew up with the Rhino CD and have never had a problem, but I'm somewhat biased in that regard because I've never done much critical comparison with other comps.Also, some have said that the live cuts from the American Hot Wax vinyl-only soundtrack are essential, and it can be found pretty cheaply. I think that the performances on Star Club are superior.

Click to expand.The Polygram albums are an excellent overview of JLL's Smash/Mercury recordings. Too bad they're out of print. The CD is probably the best place to start. Since all the better concise collections from the Smash/Mercury and Electra labels are out of print, the Time-Life boxed set might be the best way to go for those.

Otherwise, here's what I'd recommend on top of the Rhino Sun disk:Of course, if you have the cash to burn, you could just buy the Bear Family boxes, which collectively contain all his studio output from 1956 up to his final Mercury recordings.I Really wish Collectors Choice would re-release his three Electra albums. 'Live At The Star-Club Hamburg' is a 1964 show in Hamburg. The CD runs about 40 minutes.' The Greatest Live Shows On Earth' collects a 1964 Birmingham concert and a 1966 Fort Worth concert (taken from 'The Greatest Live Show On Earth' and 'More Of The Greatest Live Show On Earth').

The CD runs about 72 minutes.If you compare the two CDs, there are only six overlapping songs: Hound Dog; Long Tall Sally; Mean Woman Blues; Money (That's What I Want); What'd I Say, Pt. 2; and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On.
